Doing puzzles is a good way to get better at understanding how parts fit together to form a whole and envisioning where each piece belongs in the big picture.
Being able to register something visually and envision a whole (and what parts are missing) is an important skill when it comes to learning geometry and math as well as comprehending how sums, sentences, or knitwork, among other things, consist of patterns and sequences.
If the puzzle has a special picture, such as animals, the universe, or telling time, you can talk about it and strengthen your child's vocabulary while you're placing the pieces.
