Shape Sorter - Hot Pot

This toy is just so thoughtfully designed: creating a shape sorter with play food instead of the usual coloured blocks. Such a clever little twist. 

A shape sorter is a big hit with most children from around 12-18 months and older.

Popping the play food into the right holes, watching it disappear, and then pulling it out again to start all over is just so fun and satisfying. Little kids love shape sorters. And they get to learn about shapes while playing, because not every shape fits in every hole 

As your child grows out of shape-sorting play, role play naturally starts to take over instead. At this point, the play food is perfect for pretend play, for example when your child is cooking scrumptious make-believe meals for you or their dolls and teddy bears. And you can really get their vocabulary going when you ask for onion soup with green and blue carrots.

Have conversations about what happens to food inside the body, where our food comes from, and when we usually eat it. This expands your child’s knowledge and vocabulary. Toy food is great for role play, which inspires your child to copy real-life scenarios such as cooking, shopping, or going to a café.

Role play where children copy everyday activities strengthens their understanding of the world they live in. With play food, your child can also be silly and play with food in a way that is maybe not acceptable at dinner with real food. You can also use the play food to play grocery store and practise making special offers, writing signs, and politely greeting customers. Your child can practise taking payments and giving back change, which improves their math skills.
