Black Friday 2026 falls on 28 November. Black Friday always takes place on the fourth Friday in November, the day after American Thanksgiving.

Why is that? Let us explain:

In the United States, Black Friday has become the biggest shopping day of the year with unbelievable deals on everything from laundry detergent and electronics to sports equipment, children’s clothes, cars, and toys.

Although Black Friday isn't a federal holiday, many Americans get the day off, which means they have time to go Christmas shopping.

Originally, the name “Black Friday” actually referred to the heavy traffic on the roads as people were heading home after Thanksgiving. But today, the name has taken on a new meaning - today, Black Friday means that after a long, slow summer season in the red, the retailers go "back in the black" and business picks up again.

Black Friday toy deals typically start on the last Friday of November, but some shops like to get a headstart and drop their prices a few days earlier than that.

The term Cyber Monday emerged in 2005. Some marketing people in the United States noticed that the Monday after Thanksgiving was one of the biggest online shopping days of the entire year.

On Cyber Monday, people who had been off for Thanksgiving returned to work. Some maybe spent the weekend with family in rural areas with poor internet access.

Back on Wi-Fi, they could finally snag online deals on all the clothes, shoes, and toys they had been eyeing in store windows over the weekend. That's why it's called Cyber Monday, at least according to marketing people - Cyber Monday sales only take place online, whereas Black Friday is also a major event in physical stores.

According to the Danish Chamber of Commerce, Danish stores generated nearly 4 billion kroner (535,600,000.00 euro) in sales during Black Friday and Black Week 2023. That makes Black Friday the biggest sales day of the year. Also at Toy Academy.
