Some babies are born with one or even a couple of teeth already on their way through — and a few are even born with tiny visible teeth. Most little ones, however, begin teething within the first 4 months, and in the months that follow, itchy and tender gums are very common.

Typical signs of teething include extra drooling, red or swollen gums, and a mouth that seems sore. Once your baby gains better control of their hands (often around 5 months), they’ll likely start chewing or sucking on their fingers to soothe those uncomfortable gums.
