Looking for toys for a 1- or 2-year-old?

All very good (and very relatable) questions when you want to see that big, happy smile on your little one’s face — or when you’re on the hunt for the perfect present for a birthday party.

At Toy Academy, we only carry toys that support and stimulate children’s development and learning. Our toys are carefully selected to help your child learn through play, because that’s how little ones learn best. In the description under each product, you’ll often find helpful details about how that particular toy supports your child’s development. And in this category, we’ve gathered all our educational toys for children aged approximately 1 to 2 years, so you can easily get a clear overview and find just the right match.

Looking for toys for children aged 9–23 months?

Between 9 and 23 months, your child is developing at lightning speed. Some days it feels like they’re learning something new every week — or even every day, when things are really moving fast. Babies and toddlers aged 9 to 23 months (around 1 to 2 years old) simply can’t stop exploring. They’re constantly on the move, testing their bodies, discovering the world, and taking everything in with all their senses. That’s why it’s all about joining in your child’s play and offering fun, educational toys — and luckily, you’ll find plenty of those right here in our shop.

In this category, we’ve gathered all our toys for 9 to 23-month-olds that your child will love, along with a few extras you might choose to give their development a fun, gentle nudge in the right direction.

Have you checked out our subcategories? We’ve carefully selected toys especially for children aged 9 to 23 months (or 1 to 2 years) and grouped them based on the skills they help spark and strengthen, making it easier for you to find just the right toys for your little explorer.

The best outdoor toys for 1–2-year-olds

At Toy Academy, we truly believe that outdoor play — feeling the seasons change, getting sand between tiny toes, wind in their hair, and rosy cheeks from fresh air — is a magical (and essential!) part of childhood.

Outdoor toys invite your little one outside for fresh air, movement, and brand-new adventures. Over the years, we’ve carefully built a wonderful selection of outdoor toys especially suited for 1-year-olds and young toddlers.

We stock toys from many fantastic, high-quality brands (including Danish favourites like Mamamemo and Dantoy) who create beautiful, durable toys perfect for children aged 1 to 2 years.

Ride-on cars, stacking toys, or toys with sound for 0–1-year-olds?

When your child is between 9 and 23 months old, you’ll quickly start to notice which activities and toys really grab their attention. Maybe they love collecting and sorting things, building block towers (and joyfully knocking them down again), or fitting shapes into a sorter, over and over and over. All of this is fantastic for developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and depth perception.

Or perhaps anything with wheels, sounds, or flashing lights is an instant favourite? In that case, you’ll be glad to know we have plenty of fun baby toys with sound — and yes, most of them let you turn the volume down a notch. And if not… well, at Toy Academy many of us have simply developed a very handy kind of selective hearing. Singing books and musical activity tables tend to fade into the background after a while.

Or maybe your toddler puts all their energy into moving — crawling at top speed, wobbling along while holding onto furniture, or already walking (or even running) on their own. If that sounds familiar, you might be looking for something like a giant spinning top, a push walker, a play tunnel, or perhaps a baby swing for indoor or outdoor fun.

Is there a balance bike for a 1–2-year-old?

Yes, absolutely. At Toy Academy, we actually offer several different balance bikes designed especially for children aged 1 to 2 years. Perfect for little ones who are eager to zoom off on their very first set of wheels.

Motor skills toys for 1–2-year-olds? You’ve come to the right place.

At Toy Academy, we really know our stuff when it comes to young children’s motor development — from sensorimotor skills to fine and gross motor skills. Supporting children’s movement and development has been at the heart of what we do from the very beginning, many years ago. You could even say we were ahead of the curve.

Today, we stock some of the very best high-quality brands when it comes to motor skills toys for young children. That means toys that truly support and strengthen motor development for babies and toddlers aged 9 to 23 months — all through play, of course.

Educational toys for 1-year-olds — and birthday gifts for babies and 1–2-year-olds

It’s a good idea to introduce your 9 to 23-month-old to a varied selection of high-quality toys that will help them learn and develop — whether that means building on what they already love to do or gently inspiring them to try something new.

Maybe your little bundle of energy enjoys slowing down for a quiet, cosy moment in a play tent or with a knob puzzle. Or perhaps it’s time to bring out the finger paints and let your child create a whole rainbow in no time at all. Most toddlers are absolutely delighted when they discover they can choose exactly which colours appear on the paper.

What does an almost 2-year-old want?

If you’ve been invited to a child’s birthday — or simply want to surprise a little one you love with a thoughtful gift — take a look at our wonderful selection right here. In this category, we’ve gathered a wide range of high-quality educational toys that support and develop 2-year-olds’ motor and sensorimotor skills, curiosity, logic, balance (vestibular sense), and so much more.

And if it turns out the child you’re shopping for already has that dollhouse, fire truck, dinosaur, or ride-on car — no worries at all. You can easily and securely exchange the gift. Just follow the return instructions included with your order, and your new toys will be on their way within a few days.

Toys for 1-year-olds from Baby Einstein, Haba, bObles, and many more

At Toy Academy, our mission is simple: to help children learn through play. That’s why we’re constantly adding new educational toys to our range — toys that spark curiosity, inspire imagination, and invite children of all ages to explore both the world around them and themselves.

In this category, you’ll find toys from well-known brands like Baby Einstein, Haba, and bObles, as well as smaller, perhaps lesser-known toy makers who pour their heart and soul into creating beautiful, high-quality toys. No matter the brand, the common thread is thoughtful design and playful learning that helps your child grow and thrive.

When is the right time for a teething toy?

Some babies are born with one or even a couple of teeth already on their way through — and a few are even born with tiny visible teeth. Most little ones, however, begin teething within the first 4 months, and in the months that follow, itchy and tender gums are very common.

Typical signs of teething include extra drooling, red or swollen gums, and a mouth that seems sore. Once your baby gains better control of their hands (often around 5 months), they’ll likely start chewing or sucking on their fingers to soothe those uncomfortable gums. And if you’ve ever had a wisdom tooth come through, you know just how itchy and tender it can feel.

Some babies may also experience a red bottom, mild rashes, or a slight fever. There’s a lot happening in your baby’s little body during those early months, so you quickly become very familiar with every tiny change.

It’s hard to give one clear answer for when the “right” time is to introduce a teething ring or teething toy — every baby is different. But many parents find they need one around four months, while others may notice the need a little later.

We carry teething toys approved from 0 months, so you can safely offer a teether whenever your baby seems ready. At Toy Academy, we only stock toys made from carefully approved materials, so your little one can chew, soothe, and explore safely.
