Tender Leaf Toys creates wonderful wooden toys made at a family-owned factory in Indonesia. Every year, the Tender Leaf team spends two months on site, developing new designs and working closely with the local team to gain hands-on insight into the production process.

Wooden toys from certified forestry

The wood used for the toys is sourced locally in Indonesia and certified under the Indonesian SVLK certification system, which ensures that the wood is legally harvested.

Tender Leaf Toys values ethical practices and replants a new tree for every tree used. The toys are hand-painted and manually packed in recycled cardboard, and Tender Leaf Toys has almost managed to completely eliminate the use of single-use plastic.

Tender Leaf wooden toys are made of rubberwood left over from latex production in Indonesian forests.

The life cycle of the rubber tree

Rubber trees are grown in agricultural areas (not forests) and spend their first 25–30 years producing latex, which is collected by tapping the bark.

After 25–30 years, latex production slows, the trees are removed from the plantation, and new trees are planted. Tender Leaf then gives the retired rubber trees a second life as wooden toys.
