Doing puzzles strengthens your child's fine motor skills and patience. Besides, putting the pieces in place is a good way to get better at understanding how the pieces fit together to form a whole and envisioning where each piece needs to be placed in the big picture.

The ability to register something visually (with our eyes) and envision what's missing from a whole is an important skill when it comes to learning math and geometry as well as understanding how sums, sentences, or even a piece of knitting, among other things, consist of sequences and patterns.

If the puzzle has a special topic, such as anatomy, jungle animals, or flags of the world, you can expand your child's vocabulary by talking about it while doing the puzzle.
