Building and constructing is educational, fun, and also time consuming. We can very easily write a whole essay about how this type of play develops your child's creativity, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills as well as interest in entrepreneurship and understanding of geometry.
While playing, your child also gets real hands-on experience with problem-solving when it comes to figuring out how to build the construction so it doesn't suddenly collapse. Your child's construction play with all sorts of magnets, building blocks, or pieces develops their patience. Also, it's so cool and satisfying to construct a tall, tall tower or build the world's longest marble run, or to create an impressive domino track and film it when it topples.
