With fixed rules, board games, card games, and dice games are clearly defined activities without major negotiation with others. Many children find it a real relief to delve into a game with clear rules as a contrast to free play with friends at kindergarten or school.
At the same time, playing games gives your child an opportunity to learn to cope with losing a game. We suggest not letting your child win every single time you play. Learning how to cope with the disappointment of losing in a safe environment together with you helps make children robust and resilient. After all, you won't be able to protect your child from disappointment and defeat later in life when they have to handle things on their own.
