Doing puzzles is a good way to get better at understanding how single pieces form a whole and figuring out where each piece belongs in the big picture.
Being able to perceive something visually and envision a whole (and what parts are missing) is an important skill when learning math and geometry as well as understanding how sums, sentences, or knitwork, among other things, consist of patterns and sequences.
