And it's absolutely lovely to receive a little handwritten note from your child that says "lofe yu" - and equally surprising and amusing to see the first note stuck to the door of your child’s room that says "no parints aloud". Down the line, a good grasp and a steady handwriting are useful for handwritten Christmas and birthday cards.
