Rock Around

Our giant top with its pointed base is fantastic for slightly older children, but we're equally excited about this fantastic flat-based balance and rocking toy.

It’s brilliant for babies and very young children and help them train their vestibular sense. 

Place a blanket in the bottom of the Rock Around and put your baby on top of it. Then spin and rock the Rock Around to stimulate your child's vestibular sense.

If you already know you don’t want to deal with upgrading to the Giant Top with the pointed base when your child turns 3, we recommend choosing the pointed-base top from the beginning. If you're using the pointed-base Giant Top with your baby, place a soft blanket or quilt inside the top and make sure it covers the sides to protect your baby's head while spinning.

 

Here, essential skills are developed, which are great for your child's well-being and ability to learn:

• Good for getting your child's body moving, which in turn engages their gross motor skills.
• Invites your child to have fun and improve their body awareness.
• This is a way for your child to strengthen their vestibular sense, which helps us to spin in circles, stand on one leg, or ride in a car without getting dizzy, losing our balance, or getting car sick.

This toy has no rules, and your child can simply play with it without thinking about how to use it. Playing in the present moment is the goal here. We at Toy Academy call this type of play intuitive play - its also referred to as "open ended play". We recommend that you take the opportunity to observe how things unfold when your child plays following their intuition.

Unlike types of play which focus on achieving a result or playing within specific boundaries, intuitive play will often give you an interesting look into your child’s independent thought process, imagination, and problem-solving skills.

Motor skills furniture is the complete opposite of sitting still and staying calm. In fact, being able to rock and roll (furniture wise) can help children with motor restlessness calm down. Your child's proprioception and vestibular sense require input to function at their best. And when your child's senses get the input they need, the body can relax and function better.
