Doing puzzles together develops your child's patience and fine motor skills. Also, placing the pieces is a good way to get better at understanding how the pieces fit together to form a whole and figuring out where each piece belongs in the big picture.
Being able to perceive something visually (with our eyes) and envision a whole (and what parts are missing) is important in learning math and geometry as well as comprehending how sums, sentences, or even a piece of knitting, among other things, are made up of patterns and sequences.
