Shape Sorter - Hot Pot
This toy is just so thoughtfully designed: creating a shape sorter with play food instead of the usual coloured blocks. Such a clever little twist.Â
A shape sorter is a big hit with most children from around 12-18 months and older.
Popping the play food into the right holes, watching it disappear, and then pulling it out again to start all over is just so fun and satisfying. Little kids love shape sorters. And they get to learn about shapes while playing, because not every shape fits in every holeÂ
As your child grows out of shape-sorting play, role play naturally starts to take over instead. At this point, the play food is perfect for pretend play, for example when your child is cooking scrumptious make-believe meals for you or their dolls and teddy bears. And you can really get their vocabulary going when you ask for onion soup with green and blue carrots.
The whole thing fits in the wooden box, which looks like a cooking pot.Â
What makes this product special
Toys for learning through play
Play is essential for children’s learning, well-being, and development. Through play, children learn about themselves and the world around them.
Play helps children:
• stay curious
• focus and become absorbed in what they're doing
• take on age-appropriate challenges
• build confidence
We believe children learn best by doing things for themselves:
• by making mistakes
• by getting messy
• by falling down and getting back up again
Resilience, confidence, and courage grow through experience, one small step at a time.
That's why we carefully choose toys that encourage independence, imagination, movement, and social skills — offering just the right balance of support, freedom, and opportunities to grow.
Carefully selected toys
We carefully handpick every toy from the vast world of toys available today. The only toys that make it into our range are ones we'd be happy to give our own children.
Every toy at ToyAcademy should:
• support learning through play
• be made from durable, high-quality materials
• be safe and enjoyable for children to play with

Measures 14 x 19 x 22 cm.Suitable for ages 18 mos. to 3 yrs.
Play food is fantastic for imaginative play, which inspires your child to act out real-life situations such as shopping, cooking, or being in a café. Talk about where food comes from, when we typically eat it, and where it goes after we swallow it. This helps to develop your child’s vocabulary and knowledge.
Through role play, your child can gain experience with rules, boundaries, and opportunities for identity formation and social interaction. When multiple children play with play food together, they practise how to cooperate, take turns, communicate, and compromise. You can also expand your child's play opportunities by playing grocery store, maybe with homemade special offer signs. That way, you can learn about both numbers and letters, and your child can gain confidence in calculating prices, giving back change, or greeting customers politely.
The activity supports skill development and is great for your child's well-being:
- Develops your child's visual perception.
- Supports hand-eye coordination, a skill we rely on for example when kicking or catching the ball that comes flying towards us in PE class, or when cutting accurately with a pair of scissors.
