Doing puzzles is a good way to get better at understanding how single pieces form a whole and envisioning where each piece needs to be placed in the big picture.

Being able to register something visually (using our eyes) and envision what's missing from a whole is important for learning geometry and math as well as understanding how sentences, sums, or a piece of knitting, among other things, consist of patterns and sequences.

If the puzzle has a special topic, such as anatomy, jungle animals, or flags of the world, you can talk about it and strengthen your child's vocabulary while you're placing the pieces.
