ARK Z-Vibe®

Item No: 1237-ZV100ROYAL
The tactile sense
Immersion and relaxation
Oral motor skills

Z-Vibe® is a clever little tool for both children and adults that uses gentle vibrations to “wake up” the senses inside the mouth. It was developed by American physician and speech therapy specialist Debbie Lowsky, who created Z-Vibe® in 2000 to support the children she worked with in her own clinic.

She went on to start the company ARK with her husband, who is an engineer. Today they offer more than 100 different tools designed to stimulate the muscles and sensitivity in the mouth – including the receptors in the jaw, lips, palate, tongue, and oral cavity that send important signals to the brain and help regulate our overall wellbeing.

What can Z-Vibe® do?

Z-Vibe® creates tiny tingles and bubbly sensations on the skin. It’s specially designed to stimulate the mouth, tongue, gums, and lips – but it can also be used on other parts of the body wherever the gentle vibrations feel pleasant and helpful.
It’s a wonderful tool if your child needs a little help becoming more aware of the sensations in their own body. Think of those moments when your child refuses vegetables because the texture of broccoli or tomato seeds feels strange or unfamiliar.
With Z-Vibe®, you can help your child gradually get used to different textures so new sensations in the mouth feel less overwhelming and more manageable.

Great for the mouth and lips

Z-Vibe® is also a helpful tool for strengthening the muscles in the mouth – for example if your child struggles with certain sounds or has difficulty using their lips correctly. The gentle vibrations help the muscles in the mouth work together and become stronger.

Easy to use at home and in professional settings

Z-Vibe® is small and fits comfortably in your hand, making it easy for your child to bring along when needed. The handle is easy to grip, and you can change the tip to match your child’s needs.

Z-Vibe® can be soothing for children who need help calming themselves.
When you first introduce it, start with short sessions. If your child finds it pleasant, you can slowly increase the duration. Every child experiences it differently.

Speech therapists and other professionals who help children learn to use their mouth muscles correctly often use the Z-Vibe®. It is also used in occupational therapy as a therapeutic tool that can both stimulate the senses and help create calm. If you plan to use the Z-Vibe® at home, we recommend seeking guidance from an occupational therapist. You can find more information at ARK Therapeutic here.

Suitable for children aged 2 yrs. to Seniors

Some children suck, chew, and nibble on things to calm their nervous system by stimulating the many nerve endings of the teeth and mouth. There is no risk associated with a strong need to chew on things, but if you would like to give shirt sleeves, pillows, and pencils a break, then a sensory chew toy is a good idea. Sensory chew toys are an umbrella term for chew jewellery, chew toys, chew necklaces, and vibrating chew toys for children who feel such a strong need to chew on something that special tools are needed to provide oral sensory input. Our chew tools are all hygienic and safe to use.

If out of the blue your child starts behaving differently or doesn’t want to eat, or if you want to get your child the vibrating oral motor tool Z-vibe, it's a good idea to get guidance from an occupational therapist.

The activity supports skill development and is wonderful for your child's well-being:

  • Gives your child an opportunity to relax and immerse themselves.
  • A playful way to stimulateyour child's tactile sense (sense of touch), which supports their well-being.
  • A great way to boost your child's language comprehension through play.
