At Toy Academy, we have fond childhood memories of playing with modelling clay (making a mess but having fun!) and gradually learning to make shapes — letters, hearts, and eventually a princess, a castle, or even a dragon. 

The youngest children love feeling the modelling clay between their fingers. Slightly older kids enjoy cutting out shapes and instantly creating something lovely. By preschool and school age, your child begins using their imagination and fine motor skills to shape their own creations, explore spatial awareness, and enjoy the creative process.

This set includes modelling clay in 7 different colours, a wooden rolling pin, and cutters made of recycled plastic, shaped like farm animals and a farmer. 

In other words, all the ingredients you need for hours of creative shape-making fun and sensory play. Just remember to put the modelling clay back into the airtight containers when you're done. 

The modelling clay is safe and suitable for children under 3. And if they can’t resist a taste, that’s no problem — the clay is completely safe to play with and so salty that your toddler won’t be coming back for seconds.

For example, when you need to sit down and pay attention to a story, it’s wonderful to knead and squeeze different kinds of clay, playdough, or sensory slime while listening. It magically sharpens your child’s concentration, even though it is actually a form of distraction.

Your older child can make anything from four-headed cats to queens, kings, princes, and princesses and bring their funniest ideas to life. For very young children, playdough is mostly about the sensory experience.

We carry playdough of several different types and colours and different hardness levels. Firm playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception by providing a bit more resistance. For example, firm playdough is great for making stop motion movies, because the shape holds well.

It’s a quiet activity that can help your child stay still for just five more minutes - or help them cope with long car or train rides without fidgeting and moving about in their seat. In particular, for children with a lot of motor restlessness, playing with something that stimulates proprioception, hands, fine motor skills, and imagination while sitting still can help them stay calm.

Oil-based playdough stays soft for years. You can soften water-based playdough by kneading in a bit of water.

Of course, all the different types of playdough, sensory slime, and modeling clay at Toy Academy have CE-marking and are approved in accordance with current toy safety regulations - just like all our other toys.
