At Toy Academy, we have fond childhood memories of playing with modelling clay (making a mess but having fun!) and gradually learning to make shapes — letters, hearts, and eventually a princess, a castle, or even a dragon. 

The youngest children love feeling the modelling clay between their fingers. Slightly older kids enjoy cutting out shapes and instantly creating something lovely. By preschool and school age, your child begins using their imagination and fine motor skills to shape their own creations, explore spatial awareness, and enjoy the creative process.

This set includes modelling clay in 7 different colours, a wooden rolling pin, and cutters made of recycled plastic, shaped like farm animals and a farmer. 

In other words, all the ingredients you need for hours of creative shape-making fun and sensory play. Just remember to put the modelling clay back into the airtight containers when you're done. 

The modelling clay is safe and suitable for children under 3. And if they can’t resist a taste, that’s no problem — the clay is completely safe to play with and so salty that your toddler won’t be coming back for seconds.

Squishing, pulling, patting, squeezing, and stretching with your hands magically sharpens your child’s concentration, even though it is actually a type of distraction. For example, when your child needs to sit down and pay attention to a fairy tale, it’s wonderful to knead and play with different kinds of sensory slime, clay, or playdough while listening.

For the littlest ones, playdough is mostly about the sensory experience. And bigger kids can use playdough to bring their wildest ideas to life. Your child can make anything from pink elephants with spots to queens, kings, princes, and princesses.

We carry playdough of many different colours and types and with different firmness levels. Firmer playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception because it offers more resistance when played with. Among other things, firm playdough is excellent for making stop motion movies, because it holds its shape well.

It’s a quiet activity that can help your child sit still for just 6 more minutes - or help them endure long train or car rides without wiggling about in their seat. In particular, for children who experience motor restlessness, playing with something that engages proprioception, hands, fine motor skills, and imagination while sitting still can bring a sense of calm.

Oil-based playdough tends to remain soft for years. You can soften water-based playdough by mixing in a bit of water.
