Through role playing, your child can experiment with boundaries, rules, and opportunities for social interaction and identity formation. When the children play together with play food, they learn how to communicate and cooperate, take turns, and compromise. You can also expand your child's play opportunities by playing grocery store, maybe with homemade signs and price tags. That way, you can have fun with both numbers and words, and your child can gain confidence in calculating prices, giving back change, or greeting customers politely.
