Toy food is ideal for role play, which inspires your child to imitate real-life scenarios such as shopping, cooking, or being in a café. Talk about where food comes from, when we typically eat it, and where it goes after we swallow it. This strengthens your child’s knowledge and vocabulary.
Through pretend play, your child can gain experience with rules, boundaries, and opportunities for identity formation and social interaction. When a group of children play with play food together, they learn how to communicate and cooperate, take turns, and compromise. You can also use the play food to play grocery store and practise making special offers, writing signs, and politely greeting customers. Your child can practise taking payments and giving back change, which is great for practising their math skills.
