Item No: 21-LER6723
Fine motor skills
Hand-eye coordination
Shape and colour recognition

Hmm... What’s hiding inside the colourful acorns?

Pop them open and find the adorable little squirrels that fit inside each one.

Maybe they’ll be colour-sorted, counted, or star in a role play adventure. Or maybe they'll jump back into the acorns and pop back out, over and over. It's up to your child.

Each squirrel has its own colour as well as a little shape and number on its tummy that match the acorn of the same colour (which has the corresponding number of shapes inside the lid).

Suitable for children aged 18 mos. to 4 yrs.

Your child can simply play with this toy without first having to figure out how it works. There is no wrong or right way to play here, and there are no rules dictating what your child should do. The goal is simply playing and being in the present moment. We call this type of play intuitive play. It's also called "open ended play". We recommend that you pause and observe how things unfold when your child plays in ways that let them follow their intuition.

Unlike types of play which focus on achieving a particular result, intuitive play will most often give you an interesting peek into your child’s independent imagination, thought process, and problem-solving skills.

Practising how to categorise objects improves your child’s ability to sort through the many impressions they experience daily. Sorting is simply a way of learning and comprehending new experiences, concepts, and words. In order to understand what something is and what it means, we first need to comprehend how it differs from something else.

Once your child learns to understand sorting and organising as a method for creating an overview of tasks and activities, that skill will help them stay calm and organised in many different real-life situations – sorting laundry, understanding equations, going to the recycling depot, and much more.

Develops important skills that are great for your child's well-being and learning ability:

  • Helps your child improve their fine motor skills.
  • Benefits hand-eye coordination, a skill used e.g. when kicking or catching a ball that comes flying at us in the playground, or when cutting accurately with scissors.
