The activity rings are a Gonge classic, and now they're available in beautiful new colours.

It's one of those toys that can be hard for adults to understand. What can they do? What are they used for?

But for children, they're an absolute favourite. Kids instinctively know how to play with the activity rings in ways that we adults would never imagine. Sorting games, balance games, tossing games - the possibilities are endless.

Does your child struggle with hand-eye coordination?
Then the activity rings are a perfect training tool. Hand-eye coordination means that our hands and eyes have to work together to complete a task - like feeding ourselves, for instance. Our eyes need to see the food, and our hands need to reach out and bring it up to our mouth.

In other words, hand-eye coordination is one of the first skills your child needs to learn on their way to becoming self-reliant. Later on, it becomes essential in learning how to use writing tools, first for drawing and eventually for writing.

There are many different ways to improve your child’s hand-eye coordination. But one of the easiest ways is simply by throwing and catching. Here, the activity rings are the perfect tools. Mark a spot and have your child stand there. Then toss the rings in their direction and have your child try to catch them without moving from the spot. Throw from different distances to make the game more challenging. You can also build a tower using stacking blocks, plastic cups, or similar items, and let your child try to knock it down by throwing rings at it. Gradually increase the distance to raise the level of difficulty.

Suitable for children aged 1 yr. to Seniors

Motor skills furniture is the complete opposite of sitting still and staying calm. In fact, being able to rock and roll (furniture wise) can help children with motor restlessness calm down. When your child's vestibular sense and proprioception get more of the stimuli they require to function well, your child has an easier time settling down. In other words, when your child gets enough sensory stimulation, their body is able to relax and function better.

Motor skills furniture from ToyAcademy is extra durable and will withstand years of active play.

This activity strengthens important skills which help support your child's well-being and ability to learn new things:

  • This type of play stimulates your child's depth perception.
  • Stimulates hand-eye coordination, a skill we use for example when cutting accurately with scissors, pouring a glass of water without spilling, or when throwing, catching, or kicking a ball that comes flying towards us in PE class.
  • Fires up your child's body awareness.
  • Develops your child's proprioception, which improves their concentration skills and builds up their confidence to use their body in other types of active play.
