Doing puzzles is a good way to get better at understanding how separate parts form a whole and envisioning where each piece belongs in the big picture.
Being able to register something visually (using our eyes) and envision what's missing from a whole is important when it comes to learning math and geometry as well as understanding how sentences, sums, or a piece of knitting, among other things, consist of patterns and sequences.
Often, puzzles have a special theme or topic, which you can talk about while you place the pieces. This is a great way to strengthen your child's vocabulary about e.g. animals, flags of the world, or our universe.
