A balance bike is a fantastic way to strengthen your child's balance and crossbody coordination from the time they're young. The thing about balance bikes is that they don't have pedals, so your child pushes the bike along with their feet while straddling it.

A balance bike is a great way to challenge your child without having to worry about them having too many accidents - because your child constantly has a foot on the ground and can slow down or regain balance. Being able to race around and control their own speed (far more easily than on a standard bike) gives your child a sense of freedom. At the same time, you can also teach your child about left/right, understanding traffic signals, and looking out for other road users.

A fantastic way to prepare for learning to ride a pedal bike. Once your child has picked up speed on the balance bike, using training wheels while they learn to ride their pedal bike often becomes a redundant middle step - because balance is not a problem for your child.

The activity helps your child develop new skills and is great for your child's well-being:

  • This type of play supports your child's gross motor skills. It especially involves your child's ability to control the coordination of their arms and legs.
  • Inspires your child to express themselves and improve their body awareness.
  • This is a great way for your child to stimulate their vestibular sense. The vestibular sense helps us to stand on one leg, spin in circles, or ride in a car without losing our balance, feeling dizzy, or getting car sick.
