Balance Bike - My Hood Rider, Black

A real gem among balance bikes, and one we warmly recommend for children from as young as 12 months. 

My Hood Rider is a very lightweight balance bike with an aluminum frame, 12-inch inflatable tires, and infinite seat height adjustment. This means that children as young as 1 (with inseams of 31 to 41 cm) can have wonderful experiences on this balance bike, learning to balance and gently push the bike forward with their feet. 

The handlebars have a nice pad to keep your child safe if the ride gets a little bumpy. The bike weighs only 3.5 kg.

Over the past 15–20 years, the balance bike has become a standard toy in most families with kids, and it has pretty much replaced the small bike with training wheels as a go-to first bike. On a balance bike, your child learns how to maintain balance, steer, and move themselves forward. Once they master those skills, most young children are ready to confidently start pedaling when it’s time to move on to a real bike.

The activity supports skill development and is wonderful for your child's well-being:

• This type of play supports gross motor skills. It specifically involves their ability to control the coordination of their arms and legs.
• Benefits your child's vestibular sense, which improves learning ability, balance, and concentration.
• This is a way for your child to improve their proprioception, which strengthens your child's concentration skills and builds up their confidence to use their body in other types of physical play.

A balance bike has no pedals, so your child pushes the bike along with their feet while straddling it. Balance bikes are fantastic for strengthening your child's cross-body coordination and balance from a young age.

Being able to zoom around and control their own speed (much more easily than on an ordinary bike) gives your child a sense of freedom. At the same time, you can also practise traffic signals, left/right, and being considerate of other road users. A balance bike is a great way to challenge your child without them having a lot of accidents - because your child always has a foot on the ground and is able to regain balance or stop the bike.

An ideal way to prepare for learning to ride a regular bike. Once your child is a little pro on the balance bike, putting training wheels on their regular bike while they learn how to pedal often becomes a redundant middle step - because your child has already had lots of balance training.
