Blue Marine - made from recycled fishing nets
Blue Marine toys are made from recycled, remelted fishing nets. That means the plastic used for your child’s boats may very well have met tuna in the Pacific Ocean or perhaps even a mermaid somewhere down in the deep. And when that plastic is reused to make toys for your child, it doesn’t just end up floating around in the ocean. A brilliant solution for everyone!

Plastic is a valuable resource that should be recycled, not thrown away. The toy makers at Dantoy know all about that.

For years, they have been leading the way among toy manufacturers, working closely with international environmental organisations and the plastic industry to find a way to recycle the 1 million tons of fishing nets and ropes from the fishing industry that end up in the world’s oceans every year, wrapped around fish or in the stomachs of sea turtles.

The result of Dantoy's dedicated efforts is Blue Marine Toys. Because the toys are made of recycled plastic, the finished toys have slightly different colours than Dantoy toys usually do, and their surfaces also look a bit different. But Blue Marine toys are just as sturdy and durable as toys made from new plastic, and they can also handle a spin in the dishwasher at 70 degrees Celsius - just like all the other toys from Dantoy.

Furthermore, Dantoy release no microplastics in the wastewater from their production, as they actively filter out microplastics as part of their commitment to the Operation Clean Sweep program.

The company also prioritises sustainability when it comes to their packaging, which is either made of responsibly sourced cardboard (which is a wonderful toy in its own right) or consists of a mesh bag that can be used for storing the toys.

Is Blue Marine not Nordic Swan Ecolabelled?

You might be wondering why the Blue Marine series is not Nordic Swan Ecolabelled, when the rest of Dantoy’s plastic toys are.

The reason is that in order to obtain the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, a toy maker must provide full documentation of the exact origin of the materials used. This is called material traceability.

And naturally, it’s very difficult (impossible, really) to trace and document the origins of fishing nets collected for reuse. So, even though Blue Marine toys meet the Nordic Swan Ecolabel requirements in many ways, both in terms of chemical composition and sustainability, unfortunately they cannot be approved to carry the label.

Suitable for children aged 2 yrs. to 6 yrs.

Delightful water splashing is possible at the beach as well as the kitchen sink at home. There is plenty of learning in playing with water, feeling water droplets or spray, pouring water from one container into another, or experiencing how buoyancy can push toys to the surface. Also, bath toys are a lovely way to keep your child distracted while they're soaking in the bath or having their hair washed.

Sitting in a sandbox, or being at the beach, is the ultimate playground for many kids. The sand can be made into yummy cakes, quirky sand castles, or tracks so the favourite toy truck can work or drive around in Sand City.

Get out your fine motor skills, imagination, bucket, and shovel. water around, the play options are suddenly endless - and the water and sand develop your child's sense of touch (tactile sense).
