Doing puzzles is a fun way to get better at understanding how separate parts form a whole and envisioning where each piece belongs in the big picture.
Being able to register something visually and envision what's missing from a whole is an important skill in learning math and geometry as well as comprehending how sums, sentences, or knitwork, among other things, are made up of sequences and patterns.
