Doing puzzles together strengthens your child's fine motor skills and patience. Besides, putting the pieces in place is a good way to get better at understanding how parts fit together to form a whole and figuring out where each part needs to be placed in the big picture.

The ability to perceive something visually (using our eyes) and envision what's missing from a whole is important in learning math and geometry as well as understanding how sums, sentences, or even a piece of knitting, among other things, are constructed of sequences and patterns.

Puzzles often have a special theme or topic, which you can talk about while you put the pieces into place. This is a great way to strengthen your child's vocabulary about e.g. animals, flags of the world, or our universe.

As grown-ups, we tend to do activities that are productive or useful, at home and at work. However, doing something for fun rather than a productive outcome will do you so much good in so many ways - and your child will also benefit from seeing you almost shining with concentration and joy. Not because what you're doing is healthy, necessary, or responsible, but because you choose to prioritise fun, joy, and immersion.
