Building and constructing is fun, a bit time consuming, and very educational. We can very easily write a whole essay about how construction play benefits your child's hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills as well as their understanding of geometry and interest in entrepreneurship.
While playing, your child also gets real-life experience with solving problems when they need to figure out how to put together the construction so it doesn't suddenly fall over. Your child's construction play with all sorts of building materials develops their patience. And it's just so cool and satisfying to build the longest marble run ever or construct a skyscraper higher than yourself, or to maybe create a super cool domino track and film it when it topples.
