Design & Drill - Marble Maze

Time to design and build some seriously cool marble runs. Using the power drill, your child can fasten the track pieces onto the board and create their own marble maze.

They can follow the challenge cards for guided builds or let their imagination take over and design freely. Once the track is built, release the marble and watch it roll. It’s easy to spot where tweaks or improvements are needed.

A great way to learn about construction and practise basic tool use through play.

The set includes:

• 1 design board
• 15 track pieces
• 1 child-friendly power drill
• 20 bolts
• 1 ball
• 2 wall brackets
• 5 double-sided maze challenge cards.

The maze measures 25 x 30 cm.

The power drill requires 3 AAA batteries (not included).

 

The activity supports skill development and is wonderful for your child's well-being:

• Unleash your imagination and see where the play takes you.
• Strengthens hand-eye coordination, which is engaged for instance when we kick or catch a ball that comes flying towards us in PE class, or when we cut an accurate line with a pair of scissors or need to pour a glass of water without spilling.
• This is a way for your child to develop their proprioception, which benefits your child's concentration and gives them the confidence to use their body in other types of physical play.

Building and constructing is educational, fun, and also time consuming. We can certainly write a long book about how building and construction play supports your child's hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills as well as interest in entrepreneurship and understanding of geometry.

With this type of play, your child also gets real-life experience with problem-solving when they need to figure out how to build the construction so it doesn't collapse. Your child's construction play with all sorts of building materials makes it fun for them to concentrate. Also, it's such a confidence boost to construct a tall, tall tower or build the longest marble run ever, or to create a super cool domino field and film it as it topples.
