A monster friend inspires your child to think about acceptance in their life. Monsters are different and are often portrayed as dangerous in stories and fairy tales. We humans often react with fear and suspicion when something breaks with the norm.

Monsters have an important place in your child's play, because they expand your child’s understanding of what a friend can look like. Moreover, monster play is popular with children of any gender, which inspires kids to play together across their different interests, like princesses, swords, or cars. And monsters let your child's imagination run wild - because when your child creates, sculpts, or invents a monster, they get to decide whether it has seven ears, an eye on each knee, antennas, or arms everywhere. Monsters don’t have to look "perfect" (in a normative sense), and your child can feel proud to introduce you to their new monster friend, who, thank goodness, is anything but normal.

We carry playdough of many different types and colours and different hardness levels. Firm playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception by providing a bit more resistance. For example, firm playdough is perfect for making stop motion movies, because the shape holds well.

This activity is quiet and can help your child be still for just seven more minutes - or help them endure long train or car rides without fidgeting and moving about in their seat. Particularly, for children who experience a lot of motor restlessness, playing with something that activates their hands, proprioception, imagination, and fine motor skills while sitting still can create a sense of calm.

Playdough can be either water-based or oil-based, and each has its own advantages. You can soften water-based playdough by mixing in a bit of water. But oil-based playdough tends to remain soft for years.
