With fixed rules, card games, board games, and dice games are clearly defined activities without major negotiation with others. For many children, it can be a relief to focus on a game with clear rules as a break from wild, free play with friends at school or kindergarten.
At the same time, playing games gives your child an opportunity to learn to cope with losing a game. We recommend not letting your child win every single time you play. Learning how to cope with defeat in a safe setting with you builds resilience in your child. After all, you won't be there to protect your child from disappointment and defeat later in life when they set out on their own.
