Here, essential skills are developed, which are wonderful for your child's well-being and ability to learn:

• Stimulates hand-eye coordination, which is used for example when we use a pair of scissors to cut a precise line, when we want to pour a glass of water without spilling and making a mess, or when we throw, kick, or catch the ball that comes flying at us in PE class.
• Motivates your child to practise social skills, such as being able to lose, listen, trade toys, or wait their turn, being patient and tolerant, and making an effort to read the situation.

With a clear set of rules, board games, card games, and dice games are clearly defined activities which delightfully do not entail negotiation with others. Many children find it a real relief to focus on a game with clear rules as a break from free play with their friends at kindergarten or school.

Moreover, playing games gives your child an opportunity to experience (and cope with) losing. We recommend that you don't always let your child win when you play a game. Learning how to cope with defeat in a safe environment with you helps make children robust and resilient. After all, you will no longer be there to protect your child from defeat and disappointment later in life when they have to handle situations on their own.
