Joyk Empathy Doll - Retro Therapy Doll, 50 cm

When working with older adults, particularly those living with dementia, empathy dolls have proven to be a wonderful tool.

An empathy doll can awaken forgotten feelings, emotions, and memories that reach back to another chapter of life.

In settings where empathy dolls are part of the care, long-forgotten memories sometimes begin to surface — from older adults’ own childhoods or from the years when they were raising their own children.

In many senior care settings, empathy dolls are placed in shared spaces and often become loyal, comforting companions to older adults.

About this doll:

• The doll is made from the softest fabric, with a skin-like feel and delicate, downy “baby fuzz”. Not anatomically correct.
• The bottom is gently weighted, making it a natural place to support the doll when lifting it. The doll can sit up on its own.
• The facial expression has been carefully designed and tested to spark empathy in children, adults, and seniors alike. The doll is made to nestle in your left arm and gaze up at you — just like a real little one would.
• The doll is 53 cm long.
• The doll is dressed in clothing inspired by styles from 70–80 years ago, helping older adults relate to its familiar style of dress.

As an optional add-on, you can purchase a small beating heart to place inside the doll. It might seem a bit over the top at first — but the effect is truly special. Feeling the gentle pulse, hearing the natural heartbeat, and sensing the calming rhythm add an extra layer of lifelike realism. For many, it brings back memories of sitting with your own child sleeping peacefully against your chest.

These dolls don’t come with an age limit. They bring comfort and joy to all ages — from little ones to seniors, including those living with dementia.

Each doll is lovingly hand-stitched, so you may notice small variations in their facial expressions — that’s part of their unique charm.

The doll is machine washable at max. 40°C. Use the lowest spin setting. To keep the hair looking its best, protect it with a nylon stocking or something similar during washing.

Role playing helps children develop their sense of the world they live in. Through role play, your child gets the chance to experiment with rules, boundaries, and opportunities for identity formation and social interaction.
