KAPLA was born in the 1980s when a Dutch house renovator needed a way to model his dream project. He designed these planks to build miniature versions of his own home. The rest is history.
KAPLA is built on the belief that, in a world that changes at lightning speed, simple things still have tremendous value. By combining creative thinking with hands-on coordination, these planks engage both the mind and the body. The philosophy is that this kind of play helps children develop a greater sense of balance, focus and harmony.

Construction play is educational, fun, and also time consuming. We won't burden you with a long-winded dissertation on how this type of play benefits your child's fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and creativity as well as interest in entrepreneurship and understanding of geometry.
With this type of play, your child also gets real-life experience with problem-solving when it comes to figuring out how to set up the construction so it doesn't collapse. Your child's construction play with all sorts of building blocks, pieces, or magnets makes it fun for them to concentrate. Also, it's such a confidence boost to construct a tall, tall tower or build the world's longest marble run, or to maybe make a really cool domino track and film it as it topples.
This activity strengthens important skills which help support your child's well-being and ability to learn new things:

Kapla designs building blocks made of pine that are easy to balance and stack. Also, they are very stable and durable. Use the Kapla blocks to build spiral staircases, tall towers, and lots of other cool things from your imagination. Or you can arrange them in neat patterns like dominoes - give the first block a nudge and watch the whole row fall over in a delightful, satisfying topple.Your child gets hands-on experience with cause and effect and how to (try to) cope with disappointment, if (or when) their awesome structure falls apart. It's a real bummer, but it can also teach your child to be solution-oriented. Perhaps the blocks need to be closer together - or maybe it needs to be up on a table instead of at floor level where pets and younger siblings roam.
