Doing puzzles develops your child's patience and fine motor skills. Also, placing the pieces is a good way to get better at understanding how separate parts form a whole and figuring out where each part needs to be placed in the big picture.

Being able to register something visually (with our eyes) and envision a whole (and what parts are missing) is an important skill when it comes to learning geometry and math as well as understanding how sums, sentences, or knitwork, among other things, are constructed of sequences and patterns.

If the puzzle has a special theme, such as the universe, animals, or telling time, you can talk about it and strengthen your child's vocabulary while you're placing the pieces.
