Constructing and building is very educational, very fun, and a bit time consuming. We can easily write a long sales pitch about how construction play develops your child's hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and creativity as well as their interest in entrepreneurship and understanding of geometry.
With this type of play, your child also gets real hands-on experience with solving problems as they figure out how to put together the construction so it doesn't suddenly collapse. Also, it's just so cool and satisfying to build the longest marble run ever or construct a skyscraper higher than yourself, or to maybe make a really cool domino field and film it as it topples.
