Mini Motor Math Activity Set

Item No: 21-LER7731
Self-esteem
Numeracy skills

A fun, high-speed math game that helps children develop their math skills while having fun.

The colourful activity set builds a variety of math skills, including:
Numbers 1 - 20
Number recognition
Counting
Early addition and subtraction
Patterning
Colour recognition

There are several ways to play:
1) Addition
Use the 1–10 track as a number line.
Roll the die and move the car to the matching number on the track. Roll again and move the car forward by the number rolled. A fun way to practise early addition skills through play.
The first player to reach 10 wins the game.

2) Patterning (colour recognition)
Make patterns using cars of different colours.
Start with a simple two-colour pattern, such as red/blue, red/blue, red/blue, and ask your child to continue the pattern.
If you're up for a challenge, move on to a three-colour pattern, such as red/blue/yellow, red/blue/yellow, and encourage your child to continue the pattern while naming the colours.
Make up even more fun and tricky combinations as you play.

3) Race to the finish line (for 2 players)
Set up the track and choose a side each.
Both players start with 10 cars, and the race is on to place them all first.
Roll the die to see how many cars you’re allowed to place on each turn.

4) Subtraction
Set up the track and fill it with cars.
Roll the die and remove the number of cars shown.
Then let your child work out how many cars are left.

5) More or less
Set up the track.
Roll a number die. Count aloud and place that number of cars on one side of the 1–10 track. Roll the die again, and place this number of cars on the track’s other side.
Talk about which side has more, and which has less. Explain that the cars are “equal” if the same number is rolled.

6) Counting up cars using the 1–10 track as a number line
Roll a colour die and a number die. Place the matching number of cars in the matching colour on the track. For example, if you roll yellow and then a 2, ask your child to place 2 yellow cars on the track. Roll again and add more cars. Count the total number of cars, and continue until you reach 10.

7) Making 10: Lay out the 1–10 track. Roll the die and place a car on the matching number, for example 3. Roll again and ask your child to move the car forward by the new number rolled while counting out loud together. If you roll a 2, count “4, 5” and move the car to number 5. Talk about how counting forwards is a clever way to add numbers together—because you’ve actually just added 3 and 2.

8) Lay out the 1-10 track. Roll both the number die and the colour die. Place the matching number of cars in the matching colour on the track. Then ask your child: “How many more cars do we need to make 10?” Let your child count their way to the answer. Roll again and explore different number combinations together.

The game includes:
25 mini motor car counters in 5 colours
2 pieces of plastic track that can be joined together
1 finish line
2 dice with numbers 0 to 5
1 colour die

Among other things, your child can learn to build robots, code, do experiments, and explore their world. For educators and teachers, Learning Resources is a learning goldmine. Coding dinosaurs, math games, and sorting animals can really be a breath of fresh air in the classroom.
