What makes this product special

Here’s a set of modelling clay in four slightly glittery colours: yellow, orange, light green, and white.

It’s completely natural and understandable to feel a bit sceptical about glitter modelling clay—what’s actually in it, and is it really safe to play with for little ones who explore the world by tasting everything?

Djeco has carefully chosen ingredients that make this modelling clay safe and suitable for children as young as 18 months.

That means licking your fingers while modelling is perfectly safe. Just remember to wash your hands after play. It’s a good idea to stay close by when your little one is playing with the modelling clay, just in case they unexpectedly develop a taste for ocean-level salty treats.

The modelling clay is soft and doesn’t dry out easily. Still, remember to put it back in the tubs and close the lids properly after use — unless you enjoy finding little dots of orange and yellow modelling clay all over the wall after leaving your little one unattended for a moment.

Here, essential skills are engaged, which are wonderful for your child's well-being and ability to learn new things:

Suitable for children aged 18 mos. to 5 yrs.

Stretching, squishing, pulling, and squeezing with your hands magically improves your child’s concentration, even though it is really a form of distraction. For example, when your child needs to sit down and pay attention to a story, it’s great to knead and fiddle with different kinds of clay, playdough, or sensory slime while listening.

For very young children, playdough is mostly about the sensory experience. And bigger kids can use playdough to bring their wildest ideas to life. With playdough, your child can make anything from four-headed cats to queens, kings, princes, and princesses.

We carry playdough of many different colours and types and different hardness levels. Firmer playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception because it offers more resistance when played with. For instance, firm playdough is very suitable for making stop motion movies, because the shape holds well.

It’s a quiet activity that can help your child stay still for just six more minutes - or help them deal with long train or car rides without restlessly wiggling about in their seat. Particularly, for children who struggle with motor restlessness, fiddling with something that engages fine motor skills, hands, imagination, and proprioception while sitting still can create a sense of calm.

Playdough can be water-based or oil-based, and each type has its own advantages. You can soften water-based playdough by adding in a bit of water. But oil-based playdough remains soft for several years.

Of course, all the different types of playdough, sensory slime, and modeling clay at Toy Academy have CE-marking and are approved in accordance with current toy safety regulations - just like all our other products.
