Squishing, pulling, patting, squeezing, and stretching with your hands magically sharpens your child’s concentration, even though it is actually a form of distraction. For example, when your child needs to sit and pay attention to a fairy tale, it’s fun to knead and play with various types of clay, playdough, or sensory slime while listening.

With playdough, your bigger kid can make anything from four-headed cats to knights and princesses and bring their craziest ideas to life. For the littlest ones, playdough is mostly about the sensory experience.

We carry playdough of many different types and colours and different firmness levels. Firmer playdough stimulates your child’s proprioception because it offers more resistance when played with. For example, firm playdough is great for making stop motion movies, because it holds its shape better.

It’s a calm activity that can help your child stay still for just 6 more minutes - or help them deal with long train or car rides without fidgeting and moving about in their seat. Especially, for children who experience a lot of motor restlessness, fiddling with something that activates their hands, proprioception, imagination, and fine motor skills while sitting still can help them stay calm.

Oil-based playdough remains soft for several years. You can soften water-based playdough by adding in a bit of water.

Naturally, all the different types of playdough, sensory slime, and modelling clay we sell at ToyAcademy are CE-marked and approved in accordance with current toy safety legislation - just like all our other toys.
