Doing puzzles together develops your child's patience and fine motor skills. Also, putting the pieces in place is a fun way to get better at understanding how the pieces fit together to form a whole and envisioning where each piece belongs in the big picture.
Being able to register something visually (using our eyes) and envision what's missing from a whole is an important skill when learning math and geometry as well as understanding how sentences, sums, or a piece of knitting, among other things, are made up of patterns and sequences.
