For some children, cars and other vehicles with few or many wheels are the ultimate toys to play with, talk about, sleep with, sit on, and dream about. And cars are surely some of the greatest toys around for racing, cruising, and doing all sorts of important jobs.
Cars carry sick people to the hospital, transport everything from cornflakes to t-shirts and doll shoes, take tourists to Amsterdam, and drive astronauts about on the Moon.
Playing with cars and vehicles can involve fast-paced races, life-saving rescue missions, or calm repetitive games where the cars are filled up with fuel again and again, or take the scenic route through all the rooms of the house. Or it can be exciting scientific play involving motor skills and propulsion - or good old-fashioned, magical role play, alone or with friends.
Helps develop important skills that are great for your child's well-being and ability to learn:
- Develops hand-eye coordination, a skill we use for example when cutting a straight line with scissors, pouring water into a glass without spilling, or when catching, throwing, or kicking a ball that comes flying at us in PE class.
- This is a great way for your child to develop their proprioception, which benefits their concentration and helps them build the confidence to use their body in active play.
- In role play, your child imitates us adults and experiments with everyday situations or their own universe.
