Playing with play furniture lets your child act out familiar everyday scenarios in the kitchen or the supermarket. Also, other types of play furniture are great for preparing your child for new experiences such as a doctor's appointment or going to a café. Children are expected to behave in certain ways in certain environments, and children can only understand such expectations if they've had a chance to practise and experiment a bit beforehand, for example through play that involves ordering at a café, practising polite phrases, or talking about their symptoms. It’s also a great play idea if you have a child who is a little bit shy and afraid of new people.
