Doing puzzles is a good way to get better at understanding how parts fit together to form a whole and figuring out where each piece belongs in the big picture.
Being able to register something visually and envision a whole (and what parts are missing) is important in learning geometry and math as well as comprehending how sums, sentences, or even a piece of knitting, among other things, consist of patterns and sequences.
