The activity supports skill development and is great for your child's well-being:

Doing puzzles is a fun way to get better at understanding how parts fit together to form a whole and envisioning where each part needs to be placed in the big picture.

Being able to register something visually (using our eyes) and envision what's missing from a whole is important for learning geometry and math as well as understanding how sentences, sums, or even a piece of knitting, among other things, are made up of patterns and sequences.

If the puzzle has a special theme, such as animals, the universe, or telling time, you can talk about it and strengthen your child's vocabulary while you're placing the pieces.
