Doing puzzles strengthens your child's patience and fine motor skills. Besides, putting the pieces together is a fun way to get better at understanding how the pieces fit together to form a whole and figuring out where each piece belongs in the big picture.
The ability to register something visually (with our eyes) and envision what's missing from a whole is important when learning math and geometry as well as understanding how sentences, sums, or even a piece of knitting, among other things, consist of patterns and sequences.
If the puzzle has a special picture, such as animals, the universe, or telling time, you can talk about it and strengthen your child's vocabulary while you're placing the pieces.
The activity is wonderful for your child's well-being and ability to learn new things:
- Helps your child improve fine motor skills.
- Makes your child perk up their ears and use their sense of hearing.
- Supports hand-eye coordination, a skill we use for example when cutting with scissors, pouring a glass of water without spilling, or when throwing, catching, or kicking the ball that comes flying at us in PE class.
