Suitable for ages 9 yrs. to 11 yrs.
It benefits your child's depth perception to play with balls using their feet, hands, head, or a racket/bat. Ball games may also have rules, and it's good for your child to practise following them. So, when your child firmly insists that there's absolutely NO penalty, or that the ball was not out of bounds, feel free to cheer - that's a learning moment. What's more, your child's proprioception really gets a workout in ball games, and that's a sense which really can't be overstimulated.
This activity strengthens essential skills which help support your child's well-being and ability to learn new things:
- This type of play helps your child train their depth perception skills. For example, this will help your child walk or cycle in traffic in a safe way. "How fast are others coming towards me?" suddenly becomes a bit easier to assess.
- This is a great way for your child to engage their vestibular sense. The vestibular sense helps us to stand on one leg, spin in circles, or ride in a car without losing our balance, feeling dizzy, or getting car sick.
- Supports children's proprioception, which is also known as the kinesthetic sense or the body awareness sense.
