Tabletop Theatre - The Three Billy Goats Gruff
Beautiful wooden story pieces with a glossy finish and vibrant colours, bringing the classic Norwegian tale of The Three Billy Goats Gruff to life for children from toddler age through the early school years.
The tale was first written down in 1842 and published in a Norwegian folklore collection in 1843. Since then, the charming story of the hungry troll under the bridge and the three billy goats crossing to the mountain pasture has been retold to children all over the world. In fact, there are even Indian and Hungarian versions of the story.
This lovely set includes wooden pieces shaped like the bridge, the troll, the three billy goats, and a patch of grass representing the mountain pasture, where the goats are heading to feast after a long winter.
Storytelling is something people all over the world share. We often tell stories about the same themes across cultures, and learning to understand and tell a story with a beginning and an end is an important skill. Children build this skill by practising, telling stories again and again, talking about them along the way, asking questions, and adding their own personal twist.
For children learning to make sense of stories, hands-on tools are a wonderful support. This lovely set lets children play with the storyline, act out the tale, and bring it to life as it unfolds. It also turns storytelling into a shared, interactive experience, where the storyteller engages directly with the children, inviting them to take part, explore, and move from passive listeners to active participants.
Suitable for use at home, in childcare settings, and for people with dementia or special needs.
What makes this product special
Toys for learning through play
Play is essential for children’s learning, well-being, and development. Through play, children learn about themselves and the world around them.
Play helps children:
• stay curious
• focus and become absorbed in what they're doing
• take on age-appropriate challenges
• build confidence
We believe children learn best by doing things for themselves:
• by making mistakes
• by getting messy
• by falling down and getting back up again
Resilience, confidence, and courage grow through experience, one small step at a time.
That's why we carefully choose toys that encourage independence, imagination, movement, and social skills — offering just the right balance of support, freedom, and opportunities to grow.
Carefully selected toys
We carefully handpick every toy from the vast world of toys available today. The only toys that make it into our range are ones we'd be happy to give our own children.
Every toy at ToyAcademy should:
• support learning through play
• be made from durable, high-quality materials
• be safe and enjoyable for children to play with

This type of play is a way for your child to practise understanding and telling a story with a beginning and an end. This is an important skill, which can be improved by talking about a story while you're telling it, and telling it over and over.
When children are learning to understand stories, physical props are a great help. This wonderful play set lets children practise telling stories. In addition, it's a really nice way to bring storytelling to life. The storyteller is not hidden away behind a book but gets to be active and in contact with the little listeners, who can actively participate in the story instead of just listening passively.
Great for story telling at home with your child and in preschools and nurseries – or for people with dementia or special needs.
Helps develop important skills that really benefit your child's well-being and ability to learn new things:
- Perfect for role play, where little ones practise finding their own place in the game and taking turns to lead. This develops your child's empathy and ability to work with others.
- Motivates your child to practise social skills, for instance being able to wait their turn, lose, trade toys, or listen, being patient and tolerant, and making an effort to read the situation.
