With clear and defined rules, dice games, board games, and card games are clearly defined activities delightfully free from negotiation with others. Many children find it a nice relief to focus on a game with clear rules as a break from wild, free play with their friends at kindergarten or school.
In addition, playing a game gives your child an opportunity to practise other important skills, such as losing. We recommend that you don't always let your child win when you play a game. Learning how to cope with losing in a safe environment with you helps make children robust and resilient. After all, you will no longer be able to protect your child from defeat and disappointment later in life when they go out on their own.
