Role play with play furniture allows your child to practise familiar everyday scenarios in the kitchen or the supermarket. Also, other types of play furniture are ideal for preparing your child for new experiences such as a café visit or a doctor’s appointment. Children are expected to behave in certain ways in these environments, and children can only really understand those expectations if they've had a chance to practise and experiment a bit first, for example through play that involves using polite phrases, explaining symptoms, or placing an order. It’s also ideal if you have a child who is a bit shy and afraid of new people.
Supports the development of essential skills that are great for your child's well-being and ability to learn new things:
- Stimulates your child's ability to experience care and empathy for other people.
- Excellent for role play, where children practise finding their own place in the game and taking turns to lead. This stimulates your child's empathy and ability to work with others.
- Encourages your child to practise social skills, for example being able to wait their turn, lose, trade toys, or listen, being tolerant and patient, and trying to read the situation.
