Wooden Sorting Tray, 14 Way

Item No: 1020-74053

This clever sorting tray has 14 storage compartments and is made from smooth beechwood. Use it flat on the table for sorting treasures, or stand it up against a wall like a mini display cabinet.

The large compartments measure 20.3 x 9 cm, and the small compartments measure 13.4 x 9 cm.

So what goes in the compartments?

Buttons, beads, or other little bits sorted by colour or size? Or perhaps the tray becomes home to the most magical finds from a weekend adventure at the beach or in the forest — ready to be displayed, explored, and admired up close.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to sorting and displaying all those bits and bobs in the tray.

Use the tray for games that involve observing, collecting, and sorting little treasures or small toys. That kind of play strengthens both fine motor skills and imagination.

Encourage your child to explain how and why they have sorted things. It’s a great way to build vocabulary and strengthen their ability to reflect and put their thoughts into words.

We also carry a sorting tray with fewer, larger compartments, as well as three wooden compartment boxes with sturdy, clear acrylic lids.

Practising how to sort objects strengthens your child’s ability to sort through the many impressions they experience daily. Categorizing and sorting are basically a way of learning and comprehending new words, experiences, and concepts. Before we can understand what something is and what it means, we first need to grasp how it differs from something else.

Many everyday situations demand that we know how to organise and sort – for example, we use that skill when we sort our laundry, go to the recycling depot, or solve an equation.
